About Lebesque
A Company with History

Lebesque originally began as a family business from Eindhoven, founded in 1907 by Willem Lebesque. Initially, it started as a wallpaper and upholstery workshop and gradually grew into an all-round interior and design company with a strong reputation in furniture sales, carpets, and residential interiors.

Over the years, the company collaborated with prominent local and industrial clients, including the Philips and Van Doorne families, as well as institutions such as the Municipality of Eindhoven.

Today, Lebesque operates from Eindhoven and focuses on designing and realizing interiors with an emphasis on quality, craftsmanship, and aesthetics — building upon the rich heritage the company itself has created.

Establishment

The company was founded by Willem Lebesque, the son of a printer, who opened a wallpaper and upholstery workshop in 1907 at Demer 42 in Eindhoven. The business developed into an interior design company that gained many commissions from the emerging class of manufacturers. Clients included textile and cigar manufacturers such as Henri van Abbe (Karel I), Garvelink, Van Hussen (Abonnee), and Kersten (Willem II). Members of the Philips and Van Doorne families, as well as the Municipality of Eindhoven, were also among its clients.

Years of Crisis

During the economic crisis of the 1930s, most of the work involved repairs. The same was true during World War II, when it became difficult to obtain textiles and mainly repair work could be carried out. On December 6, 1942, the Lebesque building on the Demer was completely destroyed during British bombings. The twelve people who worked there were able to continue their work in rented spaces at Hotel Schimmelpenninck and Peek & Cloppenburg. A temporary shop was set up on Hooghuisstraat.

After the liberation on September 18, 1944, the company flourished again, stimulated by the reconstruction period. Various industrial clients returned, including the Philips and Van Doorne families, as well as the Municipality of Eindhoven and institutions such as the Binnenziekenhuis. In 1951, the company moved into the building at Stationsplein 4, a former bank. The owner (Wim) made many trips to the Orient to purchase hand-knotted carpets. In 1965, when a second store opened in Tilburg, an Iranian business associate was also present.

Relocation and TV Work

In 1993, the company moved to Hoogstraat 301, the former rectory of the Saint Lambertus Church in Gestel. Here, a new showroom was established.
As the customer base continued to grow, increasingly complex and comprehensive projects were designed and executed for both private and commercial clients, including projects throughout the Netherlands and abroad in Belgium, Germany, France, and other parts of Europe.

From 1996 to 1997, M.J.M. (Marcel) Lebesque presented interior design programs on national television for broadcasters SBS6 and KRO.
In 1997, he joined Smets Moderne Interieurs in Valkenswaard and co-founded NIA (Nederlandse Interieur Ateliers – Dutch Interior Studios) with Ruys Interieurs in Zeist. These collaborations yielded what was expected and were concluded again in 2000.

Difficult Period

In 2013, Lebesque Persoonlijke Interieurs B.V. filed for bankruptcy. Immediately afterward, the fourth generation took over and relaunched the company.
Alongside the design and realization of interior projects, the company also became active in temporary shops (so-called Pop-Ups) and organized various events.

Rise and Store

In the fall of 2018, a new physical store was opened at Pisanostraat 53, 5623CB Eindhoven.
In collaboration with two renowned manufacturers — Passe Partout and Haans Lifestyle — a concept store was launched under the name Homestories by Lebesque.
However, it soon became clear that clients still preferred direct contact supported by a showroom and office for inspiration.
Ultimately, in 2024, it was decided to discontinue the retail concept and refocus on personal guidance in interior development.
